Overview

What a cool concept and sick design for a Bjj rash guard. Often times skilled fighters and Bjj players are referred to as "beasts" or "he/she is such a beast!" Props to Manto for tapping into the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu culture and producing this product. I first saw this rash guard on Dean Lister at the 2011 ADCC event as he smashed through his divisions. Now I know what everyone is thinking, but I can tell you that just because you put this rash guard on and step out on the mat, it does not make you a beast. I learned this the hard way while reviewing it!

The Fit

Ok so I'm 5'7 and about 170 lbs right now. I chose to review this rash guard in a medium size. It fits well, not too baggy and not too tight. I may have mentioned this before, but I prefer my rash guards to fit tight like an extra layer of skin. When they are baggy on me it feels like I'm wearing a t-shirt under my Gi and it drives me nuts. I was pleasantly surprised to notice that I did not seem to have any big issues with the bottom riding up. Most rash guards are guilty of this, but for the most part the Manto Beast rash guard tends to stay in place.

The one issue that I did have with the fit is an issue I have talked about in the past. There is a seam that runs right under the armpit. This can cause some discomfort sometimes because it rubs and irritates the skin. I know Manto is aware of this issue because with their long sleeve rash guards they do not have this seam. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the short sleeve design and it being hard to avoid this. If that were the case, I would rather have a 3/4 sleeve design like the Scramble Bushido rash guard that I previously reviewed.

Durability

Although somewhat thinner than the long sleeve Manto Meia Baiana rash guard I see no problems so far with durability. All of the stitching and the seams are holding up fine. Also the actual material of the rash guard has held up well to the daily thrashing I receive while training. I still prefer to air dry my rash guards in an attempt to get the most life out of them that I can, but I think it would be fine for those who like to put them in the dryer as well. As always if I discover any issues down the road, I will update this review.

The Cool Factor

The cool factor for the Manto Beast rash guard most certainly is it's design. The colors really pop and stand out and the concept is fresh. Whenever I wear this rash guard I always get compliments on how cool it is. If you want a closer look at it be sure to watch the video review.
